Travel Reads: Knits, Knots, and Knives by Emmie Caldwell

You know that feeling when you find a cozy mystery that just clicks? That was me halfway through Knits, Knots, and Knives by Emmie Caldwell. It’s book two in the Craft Fair Knitters Mystery series, and if you love a small-town setting, crafty characters, and a murder that sneaks up on you between cups of tea and skeins of yarn—this is your next read.

What’s the Story?

We’re back in Crandalsburg, Pennsylvania, where recently widowed Lia Geiger is starting over—and trying to keep things simple. She’s settling into life with her knitting group, helping out at local craft fairs, and generally staying under the radar. That is, until someone winds up dead (because of course they do).

This time, the murder involves a not-so-popular divorce attorney with more enemies than allies. And when Lia's daughter is linked to the case, things get very personal, very fast.

Why I Loved It

First of all—Lia is such a great lead. She's not nosy in that annoying way some amateur sleuths can be. She’s thoughtful, observant, and genuinely wants to help people, which makes her super easy to root for.

And the vibe of this book? Total comfort read. Think: autumn leaves, steaming mugs, and whispered gossip in the yarn aisle. Plus, there are just enough red herrings to keep you guessing without making your brain hurt. I had my suspect picked early on—turns out, I was wrong. Twice.

Bonus Points for Crafty Details

Even if you're not a knitter (I’m barely a beginner myself), you’ll appreciate the cozy, crafty details. Emmie Caldwell clearly knows the world she’s writing about—down to the personalities you’d find in a knitting circle. The banter between Lia and her fellow crafters is one of my favorite parts.

Also: is it just me, or does every book in this series make you want to pick up a new hobby and move to a quaint town where the biggest drama is a suspicious death at the farmers’ market?

Knits, Knots, and Knives hits all the cozy mystery sweet spots. It’s warm, well-paced, and has just enough twist to keep things interesting without going full thriller. If you need a break from reality and want a little murder with your macrame—add this to your TBR.
